Are these holes for an oil cooler?

These holes are on my engine, below the oil filter housing, behind the alternator. Im a bit confused as to what goes in them. If i had to guess i would say oil cooler. The threaded hole im pretty sure is for an oil pressure switch, and the line below that goes to the vanos solenoid. The two large ones with the small hole in the middle is what im confused about, as ive seen on the obd2 cars a vanos line installs in one.

If it matters, I think the block is a m52, head is a m50.

Yes, Vac and turner both make an adapter kit for AN lines, if you don't already have the hole tapped for the vanos oil line you can get an adapter bolt from them too.

A lot of stock ones look like that but the holes don't go anywhere and there's no way to add a thermostat. If that was actually an S54/euro oil filter housing, it would have dumped all the oil out one of the holes. ;)

Nope, those have a pastic screw-on cap. This is definitely for an M50TU. But the oil cooler stuff is non-functional.

Ahh ok, but which particular models of the m50TU had them? I have a couple of housings that just add the Vanos line. Although realoem does show the holes as in the original pic..

I haven't installed this motor in my e30 yet, however this is a euro s50 housing, and the oil lines are functional. The car this engine came out of was a TMS built e36 race car, and did have an oil cooler hooked up to this housing, as confirmed by the PO.

Thanks for all the help, and despite the many requests for a trade, I think I will keep this part for the time being.

That engine just keeps getting better and better, huh Dan? First you had the head with all the temp sensor holes you need and now an oil filter housing set up for an oil cooler. I'm very curious to see what it will put down when finally installed.

If you already knew all that, why start a thread asking the question?

I knew it was a TMS built car, but had no clue about the oil cooler until my recent talk with the PO earlier today.

Just as an update, I just made lines and adapters for using the stock e30 cooler with this oil filter housing, it worked out great. I used some stainless braided hose and steel fittings I had lying around. The lines/flanges that came off the block side of the m20 fit perfect in the oil filter housing holes after I removed the nuts from them. The clamp plate is from a e32 740 oil filter housing that i shortened in the middle exactly the width of the old hole that was in it. And the oil cooler hard lines I swapped sides from passenger to driver and welded the same type fittings on them. It works great, here are some pictures.
