    Broken engine mount bolt question...

    One of the 4 bolts that secure the passenger side engine mount to the block is broken in the block.

    There are 6 holes on that side, two by two by two...the broken bolt is in the bottom furthest to the back of the engine.

    I've tried all the typical removal 'tricks' (lube for days, heating, vice grips, about to do the reverse drill bits but I think they wont work)...no luck.

    My question is, do we use the back 4 or the front 4 holes, and if we use the back four...would using really high quality bolts be ok in 3 out of four holes?

    Getting the block to a machine shop would be a uber PITA for me. And I don't have a welder, I suppose I could find someone with one to come over and try welding a nut too it still.

    3 bolts is NOT enough! get left handed drill bits and an easy out.

      Did you cross thread the bolt in there or you torque the bolt too much that the head broke off? Sears has a reverse bit, quite easy to use.

        i think if there is even a little bit sticking out-enough to get the vise grips on, you can get it out with application of heat. a propane torch isn't going to cut it though. i don't think mapp will work either. accetelene and oxygen would be the way to go. you do need all four bolts, but it would be a good idea to replace all the motor mount bolts with grade 8.8's or better. factory bolts have been known to break ......

          I didnt break it in there - It is the motor Im going to swap in, I just didnt notice the bolt before.

          I have herd nothing but bad things about those easy outs, especially for a bolt of this size...but I am going to try that next.

          I'll have to see if I can get someone to come over with a better torch on my next day off if that easy-out does not work...I dont expect it too.

            It doesn't sound like the block is very easy for you to move around, but PM me if you want to bring it by our shop. There'd be a charge, but I wanted to let you know that we are availible as an option.. We are in Matthews right near where 485 and 74/Independence intersect.

            I would offer to come by, but I'm not really sure what I could do away from all of my tools..
