    S52 into my M50 E30

I have a couple of questions for the people who have knowledge on 24v E30's.

    I currently have a NV M50 and transmission from a 1992 E34 in my 1991 318is.

What, if anything, am I giong to need to change or replace in order to make the S52 OBD I and get it running in the E30?

I have a good knowledge base about the swaps, but I need more detailed information (especially about wiring) in order to feel comfortable doing the swap.

Will my transmission work with the S52?

Do I leave the fuel injection system from the M50 in the car and attach it to the S52?

If anyone knows of a write up for a swap like this i would love to read it over.

    TIA

        im interested in this aswell.

i have a 92 E34 m50 and would like to upgrade one day.

as far as i can tell it will be plug and play:p worst case is a few pins in the c101 need to be moved around. You will have to reference the S52 ETM and do a cross check with your wiring adapter to confirm everything is the same.

the block is the same from the outside, so yeah, the transmission should bolt right on, along with your engine mount arms and starter and stuff.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the info. so I will leave the fuel system from the M50 in the car, so to speak??

You'll need an OBDI VANOS harness, you can't use the NV harness. You can use the IM, a few sensors and the oil pan/dipstick/suction tube from the E34 NV.

IIRC S52s come with 21.5# injectors, M50s come with 17.5#ers. You'll probably want to use the S52 injectors and obviously an OBDI harness. You can't use the NV DME with a VANOS motor, find a 413 and get a TRM chip for it.

I'm not sure which trans the E34 M50s come with, but if it's a G250, it'll bolt up but they're not known for being very robust; you'll probably want a ZF from an E36.

E34 and E36 harnesses will have similar pins but aren't going to be identical. Check the ETMs and revise your harness adapter.

You'll need more info than this, do some searching.

no, keep the S52 all original, i was just referring to plugging it into the rest of the car at the c101/x20.

Found a Vanos OBDI wiring harness for a very nice price. Got a bunch of extra sensors and whatnot to make the swap go easier!

just noticed how old this is, but oh well...

                          wow, great post...
I'm about to start the process of swaping S52 with M50NV.
I currently have G250 with m20 single mass flywheel, clutch and pressure plate... I assume this will work with s52 as stated above.
What about converting S52 to OBD1? It's probably easier to find wrecked e34 and swap over parts... will I have to change fuel rail along with intake manifold or leave s52? Also, what about throttle body, maf sensor, ecu? Do I need to ge a chip for it to run properly? Which one you recommend?
Sorry for the long post, but anything helps. I've been searching but its hard to find solid info.
                          Thanks
