I bought a 87 325is with an M52 OBD1 swap about a year ago. I recently had a small engine fire and a lot of the wires got fried and melted. So i want to rewire the whole thing. My question is what do i need to rewire the car. The car already has the Treehouse racing adapter. So what im asking is do i need to just get the main harness from a M50 or M52 car and thats it or am i missing something. Also if that is the case does anyone know where i can source the harness? Thanks in advance and im sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search but had a hard time finding a definite answer

Well, it's hard to give you a definite answer w/o knowing WHAT EXACTLY fried/melted.
I would assume the engine harness? If that's the case then you would source another one and FIGURE OUT WHY IT FRIED so that your replacement harness won't do the same thing. Possibly the adapter is fried, check it as well.

Well it wasnt the wiring that caused the fire it was a fuel leak. Im going to replace the whole engine harness. I checked the adapter it looks good. Its all the wires close to the intake manifold and also under the manifold. Not all but i might as well replace it all bc its all bunched up and melted together. Ok so no M52 harness i will source a M50 then.Comment

you could go through and re solder new wire one by one, but for the time and hassle involved, and the butchered harness you would be left with. it not worth it. you can get a new harness for >100$.Comment

Im running a e34 M50 w/ vanos harness.
See i dnt want to jump to far ahead but the problem im having is the car cranks and sparks but no fuel gets to the rail. I pulled the supply line and it was dry. I replaces the fuel pump relay with a used one (dnt know if it was good or not) also i changed the relay holder. Still no fuel. The pump was good before the fire so i dont have reason to doubt it. Any suggestions? ThanksComment

It is good that you know which harness is in the car in case a replacement is needed.
Did you remove the fuel rail from the car?
Are you sure that the fuel lines were not switched during the repair?
Since there was a fire practically on the fuel rail, are the injectors melted maybe?
90/10 that the pump is OK but the power supply for the pump was apparently in close proximity to the heat.
You may want to check for voltage at the pump terminals in order to verify successful repair of the Main and Fuel pump relay harness.
I think you would be ahead if you bit the bullet and bought another complete engine harness.

Haven't re-wired yet i am trying to avoid it at all costs. unless last resort
Ok i did some tests with a generic light tester (has a bulb in it lights up if there is power). I tested the power coming to the pump and the tester shows power. I tested the fuel pump relay wires with the key in the ON position i tested pins 87 and 30 and also fuse 11 no power. I tested the main relay and it had power and i also tested the other relay i dont know what its for and it also showed power. I wired a battery straight to fuel pump and pulled the feed line on the fuel rail and no fuel came out.
So does that mean my pump is bad? Also how is it possible that the relay shows no power but the fuel pump power wire shows power? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Comment
