    M50 Auto Swap???

Alright guys don't flame me here... here me out. ;)

My wife and I have an opportunity to buy a fairly low mileage, cherry '92 325ic for $1500. Problem is the timing belt failed in a bad way so a new would be in the plans.

Now, can you swap an m50 auto into the e30? This car would be my wife's and she is deciding what engine goes in it, not me. I have researched the 24v swap many times for plans with my own car, but was waiting to finish my turbo m42 before diving in. So what would be different with doing the auto, or would it not be possible at all?

    Thanks for any help guys.

    Eh hem. A '92 325ic would be an e30 m20, not an e36 m50. M50s didn't have a timing belt.

I think he is just asking on what it would take to do an M50 Auto swap....

^What he said... sorry I meant the wife brought up swapping the shot m20 for an m50, but she was adamant that it be auto still. Is that possible?

Its possible but you will have to beat the tranny well out and find what driveshaft will work. Hope that helps.

It does, thanks. I will just swap a low mileage m20 into it then. This chassis is cherry and there is no way I would be willing to beat on it to fit a swap.

            Thanks again.

Might be able to use an auto m42 tranny...

She doesn't really need a 24 valve engine. A freshened M20 with a new timing belt will be extremely reliable and more than enough power for her needs. I'm assuming a bit here and could be wrong, but not likely.

Couldn't he just use the auto off the m20, I know it tilts the trans down on the right when bolted to a m50...ehh nvr that would create a issue with fluid level.

But it makes that stupid old car sewing machine noise!

(not gonna lie, that was one of the reasons I swapped)
