    trans question...

Gathering parts and such and everything i've read says that e36 325s have g250s but i just got my drivetrain for my swap and it has what i think is a g260. part number stamped on the side is 260.0.1270.90. It is a early '92 model. Anybody else have this issue? apparantly some early 325 e36s used this unit??

What do i need to use for a trans crossmember mount? Driveshaft? etc?

Interesting.. Could you take a picture of the numbers and the entire gearbox? That would help a lot and be good for general knowledge on the matter.. I wasn't aware of any G260's in E36's, but I've never looked into early models like that.

i can take some better pics on Monday, but the part number on the side of the case is 260.0.1270.90 and on the tail shaft housing it is: 260.01.060.91. Came out of of 3/92 build date, e36 325is m50.

here are some more pics. I ASSUME this is a g260 as that what the part numbers start with. could it be a g250?

I also ran across this thread:

So at this point, I would think that my trans has been swapped out at one point with an e30 g260 and installed into the donor e36. It's the only solution i can come up with at this point!

          thoughts??

That's what it sounds like. Weird thing to do, but I could see it.

what does the transmission crossmember look like on the E36 you pulled the transmission from? Just wondering if it has been modified somehow to account for the rotation of the G260 when installed on the M50.

Gnarles, I didnt get to see it. I saw the car, bought the engine and when I came back the next day to get it, they were siting on a pallette. I havent seen a g250 trans in person either, so i would assume that the e36 crossmember is in the correct position being that it is mounted to the m50 drivetrain already. (the reason you have to modify the e30 325 cars is because the trans mounts in a different position relative to the crossmember on the m20 engine)

I'm starting to confuse myself, but i think that makes sense!
