So my swap car has been running great-until...

I drove the car yesterday and it was perfect. Parked it in front of my house and was working in the garage. Went to pull it in the garage for the night and it would start-but not run.

So today I disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, hook it up and try to start the car-same issue. I unplug the MAF and start it and was able to get it into the driveway-but it was surging/smoking/backfiring, it was a pain to get it up the driveway.

Does anyone have any ideas? As I said it was perfect during the day...

    its an 86es with a 93 vanos m50
    Thanks

The bad part is that I am leaving town tomorrow, now I have to think about this the whole time. Maybe I can look at grounds before I leave. Thanks.

Vacuum leak? That is what happened to mine... A hose going from the block to just under the intake manifold disconnected and it was acting the same as you described.

Well, my head is cracked. I sprayed carb cleaner around the intake with the car running and it seemed to run more normal. I couldnt see anything unplugged so I pulled the intake off. I then saw coolant on top of one of the vales and could see a crack in the head. Then I pulled that plug out and it was soaked in gas and the cylinder was full of gas also. I am now looking for a head, I found one from a car with 95k for $350 including vanos and cams. I dont fully understand the procedure for the vanos so I am gonna read up on it. Does anyone wanna loan me the cam tools/?
