    How to identify a s52 block

    this guy on craigslist is selling a good s52 short block for $200, so I need some pointers on identifying it as one, cause I havent been around 24v motors really to tell the difference...

    should say 3.2 on the block casing by/under the starter

      Really, I figured since it was just a bored out M5x it would just be a 2.5 stamping, as the castings for the outside would be the same, never really looked at mine. Anyone else verify Greg's statement

        true but the blocks are all stamped accordingly (Ive got 3 different ones kicking around (2.5,2.8,3.0) all stamped )

            like greg said, there is a small smoothed out area on the drivers side of the engine near the motor mount arm. it has a series of numbers stamped in it and the first 2 #s designate displacement. "32 345 5694" its a 3.2 (S52).
            1989 325i Alpine s52 coupe
            2003 540i M-Sport 6 speed
            2003 X5 3.0
