putting things back together...under the intake mani

    well

most of the stuff underneath the intake manifold i have never seen in my life. my swap is going on 2 weeks...and i still cannot seem to find any source of material online that will assist me on WHAT goes WHERE!!!!

realoem hasnt really helped me at all. searching on this website hasnt brought up much for me...

anyway, the fuel lines i know. fuel in, fuel out. but that charcoal canister? i couldnt tell where that goes...at all!

the vacuum hoses...i know one goes from the FPR on the fuel rail to the bottom of the intake manifold. the other small one from the front valve cover to the big tube underneath the center of the manifold. what about the big one from the front of the valve cover?

throttle body. i have no idea what goes where.

    ...basically all the tubes.

i think this forum needs a "what goes where" sticky. its hard to read that comprehensive guide to 24v. i am sure a lot of people will agree on what i proposed.

    anywho...thanks!

-Another frustrated 24v'er (i know its going to be soooooo worth it in the end :D )

Vaccum hoses should go something like this

-Valve Cover connector has 2 hose coming off of it: Larger goes to a connector either on the dipstick or on near the manifold support/wiring channel, then another hose goes from that to the intake boot. Smaller hose connects a connector in between ribbed hose and intake manifold.

-Fuel Pressure Regulator has a small hose that connecter underneath the manifold, usually towards the firewall.

-Hose from ICV to intake boot (connector in between)

-Ribbed hose from ICV to hole in manifold, opposite throttle body hole. Should snap in.

-Hose from smallest nipple on throttle body to Purge valve then hose from purge valve to charcoal cannister.

          OBD1 is pretty simple.

Lets start @ the MAF. One hose in the intake boot goes to the valve cover, the other goes to the Idle air control valve.

You hit the throttle, one hose goes to the spider hose below (small one bent up), the other goes back to the head (there is a thermostat in there in which you can see on real oem)

The third odd ball nipple (most 3rd nipples are weird) go to the charcoal can purge valve, which then goes to the charcoal can. Out of the charcoal can on line goes to the tank vent. The other goes to atmosphere....

Underneath the intake. The massive elbow goes to the IAC. The small nipple runs to the valve cover. (where the pre-throttle elbow went)

On the underside of the intake manifold is a small vac line, that runs to the fuel rain for the fuel pressure regulator.

The brake booster is fed off the small nipple near the #5/#4 runner.

That should deal with most vac.

Coolant, the spider hose hits the front of the head. Which in turn runs to the firewall to hit the heater core (check orientation)

The other end of the heater core is fed from the back of the head (the big nipple) Make sure to have the newer pressure relief valve. (Unless you like exploded heatercores)
The smaller leg in the middle of the spider hose goes to the throttle (mentioned above)

the fatter leg in the middle goes to the expansion tank

The throttle is fed off of the spider hose and the head port (next to the temp sensors)

as far as sensors for temp. Front is ECU, rear is Cluster. Use the m20 temp sender to get appropriate signal.

You're an idiot. Keep your smart ass opinion to yourself there's nothing wrong with asking questions not everyone automatically knows everything you know.

OP glad someone else is doing the same thing as me this weekend I'm trying to figure out what goes where too.

              +1

I find this post helpful, im doing the same swap. I also didnt/dont know where all the vaccum hoses go.

Just to clarify on the throttle body: If I have eliminated the coolant flow through the TB, the 2 nipples will both need to be blocked off. The 3rd is a nipple for the charcoal canister which I have also eliminated. So all 3 need to be blocked off to prevent vaccum leakage, or no?

The coolant ports ... not necessary.
The vacuum port is a must.

Didn't mean to sound too snappy, I was frustrated when I wrote that. Routing all that shit under the intake is a bit of a PITA.

well, I do things myself...for someone whose never done such a task in his life (pulling an engine and putting another in), I am doing farely well.

I dont pay someone to do things i can do myself on my E30. why kind of E30 owner are you anyway if you dont DIY. really...did you think before you said that silly comment?

                      still taking suggestings, etc.

                      thanks !

                        Thanks jrdeamicis
that is very helpful! :) Been hoping that someone would post a this goes to where to what thread for awhile now. I started laying out and looking at all of my cooling hoses and it gave me a headache trying to figure it all out. Also,
I noticed that my spider hose is all chewed up.
Can the spider hose be replaced with a regular piece of hose if you are not gonna run a coolant line to the throttle body and have no radiator overflow ?

What do you plug there if you dont have the charcoal cannister?

One fitting on the canister accepts a vapor line from the fuel tank.
The other goes up to the intake via the vac fitting on the throttle body with the valve in line.
If you ditch the canister/valve then you must plug the vacuum port on the TB.
