Started m52 for the first time but engine lights

Started it today. But my engine oil light is on, and my check engine light. Is there a way I can check to see if there's oil pressure or see?

is it the oil pressure light on the cluster or the oil level light in the check panel?

It might have been just the in the the check panel. But then the check engine light in the dash cluster. Will the check panel oil light make the check engine light come on? I have the hair under 7 quarts. Unless the sensor is faulty. I just wanted to be sure the engine was getting oil.

Did you integrate the oil level sensor wiring into your harness? The e36 harness does not have provisions for it, so you have to run the wire yourself.

If the oil pressure light is off, you are most likely ok. When I started my swap for the first time, I pulled the fuel pump relay and cranked it over until the oil pressure light turned off to make sure I had oil pressure before I started it for real.

Use the stomp test to pull your check engine code and go from there.

The flashing light in the centre of your cluster is not the check engine light. It is a caution light to bring your attention to the check panel.

If the engine oil light in your cluster goes out after starting you have enough oil and sufficient oil pressure.

Yeah I bought an adapter with the wire run in it. I just took off the oil filter cap and the filter is have way smerged in oil. So I would assume the oil is getting up there since it was drained before hand and wouldn't of had any in there.
Now what bothers me is why the check engine light came on.
It sounds ok, kinda hard to tell with open headers, maybe revving a little high 900 rpms but that's it.

Started it again. And it will idle at 900 Rpms. and after a few minutes the check Engine light comes on and the revs start jumping for 900 to 1500 like once a second.

Well your oil pressure light should be going to your cluster for oil pressure dummy light.

You would just do the CEL check.

Turn the key to run but do not start. Then hit the gas pedal to WOT and no throttle 5 times. Then stop. And wait. The light will flash once and then start to display a code in flashes.

Also, if your ECU is not properly bracketed in, do that. If you can't do that, AT LEAST run a ground wire to the case. You'll be surprised how much trouble can be caused by the crap job of grounding the ecu that the harness does.

Yeah mines not bracketed in. What's the best way of running a ground to the case since there's no hole to just bolt a wire to

Were does the code get displayed? My throttle cable is not hooked up so I have to do it outside the car. What light is it displayed through? I moved the trottle linkage open and close 5 times and didn't see anything different. It doesn't do it quickly enough before I get back in does it?

The check engine light blinks the code. press the pedal 5 times in under 5 seconds. the first long 5 sec flash and two 2.5 sec flashes indicate that it is about to start flashes the codes there will be a 2.5 sec pause between codes if there are more than one code. when it is finished there will be a .5 sec flash then the light will stay off.

Edit: pardon my thread jack but I can't get my car to throw the codes either. I have the check engine light wire from the DME connected to pin 12 on the c101 and there is continuity from the engine side plug to the dme connector. I don't have the TXD and RXD wires connected but I was under the impression that they didn't do anything since there is nothing on the e30 side for them to even connect to.

did you run the pin from the x20 right into the light bulb?

my car didn't have a CEL when i got it(early motronic) so i dont know how its done factory, but basically the lead from the x20 goes direct to positive of the light, and then you just need to ground the light.

heres a vid i made of mine in action, it gave me a 1224 code which i have since fixed :p

Does it have to be done through the petal, or is doing at the TB fine. I imagine at the TB is fine. I can't hook up my throttle cable cause missing a bracket on the TB.
