Quick Question! Pictures included. OBD1 Filter Housing on M52

I've seen other engines with this done. And am inthe process of doing it. I spaced the power steering pump out to line up with the lines, but I'm 1/8th of an inch out too far approximately. Will that be okay? What do the rest of you guys do?

That's really strange, your pump looks nothing like mine...

Honestly 1/8" sounds like too much play. Maybe you can use smaller washers?

Just take one of those nuts and grind an 1/8" off of each one.

I don't have a grinder. And it's all back together now... it all fit perfectly and doesn't seem bad.

What will go bad first if it is indeed too far out of line? Strain the pump?

And it's less than 1/8th of an inch, I don't think that I could get it closer even with washers.

You'll put stress on the belt me thinks, it will decrease the life of it. Maybe someone else can confirm if thats true or not.

Doesn't look like you routed the belt correctly. Where is your idler pulley? Better picture shown the belt routing would help.

Correct. No alternator yet because I was still debating if I wanted to run the pump like this.

Fire up the car and no noises, it looks fine. The belt is routed properly now that the alt is there.

I guess I'll go with this and hope for the best. I'll keep an eye on it. Really curious what others with the same setup have done.

Does this mean you no longer want the plastic housing cap?

Why don't you just go to the junkyard to pick up a proper power steering pump? Pretty sure there would be a lot and you could rebuild it fairly cheap as well.

They had several ways of routing the belt...my motor's belt is routed the same way as O/P...no secondary idler pulley required.
