Please help me out.. M50 turbo questions. Im tired of searching

I am picking up a M50B25tu from a 94 325IS for one hell of a deal. It has M3 cams with a rebuilt head and very low miles. Also Red label 413.
I want to mate it to my precision 6262 but i am having a hard time finding out.....
    1. What are the concerns with turboing a VANOS motor? (i will be using MS)

    2. Im not positive about my boost levels yet but is it necessary to do a MLS gasket or other? Many people seem to be using stock one. I would prefer to use OE just as a "fuse"

    3. If I want to make 400hp, what would be the best trans option? (no way I can afford E46 M3 ZF)

    4. Any links or members you can direct me to to help me through this?

Thanks so much for your time guys.

Safe limit for the stock HG is between 8-9 psi but the tune has to be very good.

i currently dont have a trans so anything else may be just as inconvenient.

I know getrag makes a stronger trans (generally speaking), i want to make sure because i know when i go to the junk yard, there will be 15 e36's and maybe 1 85 325 auto with 250k on it. thats how its been. i remember 6-7 years ago, any yard would have 10 e30's at a time.

Since you are going 24v and turbo you could go with a ZF and a 240MM Clutch disc. But people also put 400+ HP through the 260. And they are somewhat cheap and replaceable. ZF not so much.

                  The E46 M3 transmission is a Getrag S6S 420G.

The E36 M3/328 and E46 328/330 transmissions are the ZF310 and the ZF320. The ZF 5spd is a very tough gearbox - just make sure you replace the detent pins before you install it. It's also available for relatively little money. I picked mine up for $200. Just be careful to make sure your throwout fork matches the clutch - discovering that the 328 fork didn't work with the E36 M3 clutch was vexing.

Stay away from the Getrag 250 at all costs. It's a piece of crap that can't even handle stock power all that well.

if I use a 260, i then have to use m20 clutch, starter and flywheel? is that correct?

Nope. You can run the 240mm m3 clutch and flywheel. I don't know for sure about the dual mass but you can definitely run a light weight flywheel and m3 clutch/pp in front of a getrag 260, that's what I have and it works.

If you think you may explode your tranny. Go with a 260. They are cheap and replaceable and bulletproof.

ZF - Not as cheap. Really strong also.
