"I've got an S50 that was pulled from a 95 M3. The car ran and drove when it was parted, but didn't run so well. Did a compression test before pulling the motor, and results were good (~180) on 1-4 and weak (~130) on 5&6. I'm under the impression the head gasket is shot, but I didn't diagnose the problem further. I've sold the cams from the head, but otherwise, its a complete long block

That would be a nice builder..

Ask him to do a wet and dry compression test to test the rings. Pretty sure its the rings and not the headgasket.
