I run an ebay 16" fan on it's own circuit and switch with a stock e30 thermostat, mishimoto rad, upgraded water pump. no issues with s50 with cams and pistons and autocrossing.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I run the stock aux fan with a lower temp switch 80/88C with no condenser mounted with stock euro brackets in front of the radiator. Also have aftermarket Alum rad from ireland with 80C T-Stat. Ran the car at a Thunderhill track 3 weeks ago temp was 80* outside and have no overheating issues. Comment

I bought the Mishimoto 16" pusher off ebay, half the price of Spal and is damn good. That with a Mishi radiator, BMW coolant /water wetter low thermo and switch and have it wired just like the aux fan. Not one problem and even after beating on it, getting stuck in traffic at 100 degrees out it barely goes over half but goes right down as soon as I am rolling. Highly reccomended setup.Comment

You can run a SPAL high performance, the 88mm variety, in front of the AC condenser, so if you don't have that, you'll be fine. As to the wiring, look at the SPAL spec sheets: none of these pull more than 20-22A at the most, so you'll be fine AND you get to keep the 2 speed functionality: I have the SPAL 3300 m^3 and while it's true that my engine will NEVER overheat, it's also true that the noise is significantly higher than that of the engine at 2000RPM.
Edit: if you use this as your main fan, replace the normal 2 temp switch with the Z3 1.9 unit that kicks low in @80C and high in @88C.Last edited by nmlss2006; 07-09-2010, 06:20 AM.Comment

Sorry to dig up a thread, but instead of starting another, i just seek clarification using information already present.so you'll be fine AND you get to keep the 2 speed functionality: I have the SPAL 3300 m^3 and while it's true that my engine will NEVER overheat, it's also true that the noise is significantly higher than that of the engine at 2000RPM.

How exactly do you wire these fans then to accommodate the dual speed?
Just attach both positive fan wires (black/blue + black/green) to positive on fan, and ground to brown?

Is there any need for a diode or will the relay on low speed shut of when it kicks the high speed relay on?

I'm finishing up an s50 swap and my stock aux fan is very much stuck...and ironically my radiator endtank cracked. I have a spal coming in but wasn't sure which wire to hook it up to after upgrading to the lower temp e36 m42 switch.Originally posted by FredKHowever, in your absence, I will likely sit in your seat buck naked while making racecar noises as if I were maxing your E30 out on the Mulsanne Straight while allowing the perforated vinyl to soak up my butt sweat (going 200 mph does that to you).
