    325ix Booster

Ok well I have a 325ix booster and m5 master cylinder. MC bolted up finem but the booster does not fit at all.... Theres only 2 bolts to screw the booster to the body and the original had 4, The width between the bolts too is different, the 325ix is smaller than the stock one.

Anyways, Im thinking about just drilling new holes, problem solved. I have a question though,

    1. I have to run a remote res. for the brake fluid, is there hi pressure lines or anything I need to do this? Or will some rubber hoses work?

    2. If its remote does the 2 holes for the res, have to be facing straight up? Or can it be cock eyed a bit?

    3. The hose coming out of it to go to the engine used to be on the bottom right, does it matter where it is? It easier to swivel the booster so its kina in the middle.

    Thanks!

Oh btw, this is going in a e30 m3 to throw a couple kinks at ya

Just test fitting and this is not even close to fitting

Thats as far in as I can push it without compressing the spring

i just went and looked at my ix, there is a spacer type thing between the firewall and the brake booster. pm me an email and i'll send you a picture. it looks like its about the same distance that you need for that to mount correctly.

i'm almost positive this is what you need for that to work. its on my parts car so if its the case i'll send it to you for 5+ cost of shipping. it goes from the four holes pictured and extends out about 1 inch. It then has 2 holes diagonal from each other.

I can't answer your questions regarding the iX booster - looks like Dave has a good lead for you.

          1) These lines aren't high pressure but you can't use plain rubber - the brake fluid will break it down. Try to find some of the blue clutch line hose from the dealer.

          2) All of the plugs that I've seen are at 90 degree angles. Do you have a lead on these? I'm about to order some from a 2002 that I found in the ETK. The BMW V8 reservoirs already have a remote lines attached to them.

          3) I used the iX booster in my conversion and believe that the vacuum port is on the bottom right (closer to the engine) side.

Ok, well I will order up a remote res. for this then. With your install did you use that bracket that dave is talking about? I cant find it on a ETK for a 325ix, but I can for the 7 series one. Im just concerned about clearence since I have never heard of this bracket before

mine bolted up just fine. I *think* just changing this one out for the 325ix booster should solve that problem. I also had to run a remote resevior because it forces the resevior to be farther foward on the MC, I just mounted mine to the blower cover right above the booster.
              Im now E30less.

The clearance with an added 1/2 an inch or so from the bracket shouldn't be a problem. If the bracket is from a V8 7 series it should probably fit - the 325ix and v8 boosters are similar.

update, nope it wont work, manifold wont seat down, and with engine movement it would rip the intake manifold right off

Grind the fins of the manifold, gives you plenty of clearance. IF my engine moved it would move the other way but the urethane S38 mounts dont allow it to move much.

                        Hi Guys,

I hope this isn't too much of a noob question, but I'm getting together the parts for my M52B28 swap, I want to use the 325ix booster over the 320 so as not to change the pedal feel from stock. I notice you've all mentioned the need for a remote reservoir when using the 325iX booster...why exactly does it have to be remote? Does the reservoir foul on something that I'm failing to visualise? Anyone got pics?

I'd also like to clear this up so I can update the Twin Cam Swap FAQ document I put together a little while ago.

                        Many thanks,

                        Drew.

I have the 325ix booster, you need to fab up a remote brake fluid resevior because it crashes into the boot in its stock position. Effort is about the same but its really fast since it is the 25mm bore MC.

Certain MCs wont work with the single chamber boosters yeah but there are plenty of options for the older boosters. The ones for the dual chambers are recessed inside the booster.

Ryan, are you referring to the intake boot?

Yes you need a remote reservoir, the reservoir will otherwise come in contact with the intake boot around the throttle body end.

                              Stock S38 motor mounts? E28?
