    M52X variety?

So I have a M52 torn down due blown HG and the intake cam is shot on #6 the polished surface is GONE. So S52 cams work so why wouldn't a set of S50 cams work?

Now I'm debating on adding a 3.0 S50 crank to it as well.

Thoughts, oh what ticks me off more is the fact I need to do the HG in the S52, I just installed as well.

s50 cams will require m/s50 cam trays. Not sure on the lifters. You'll have to swap out all the rotating gear in the cylinder head anyway, so...

You can put in S50 cams with no other modifications.

It's the other way that doesn't work... no S52 cams in M50 without trays.

Oops, my bad, I thought it was cam to tray specific. Learn something new everyday.

Yeah, knew the cams in s52's are bigger than m/s50 cams or require some clearance work.

Good saved some money with having spare cams around, now need to determine extent of lower end damage if any.

Greg I know how you feel about the head gasket leak. My s50 leaks oil out the back of it. I had a chance to replace it too on installation, but declined.

Seller refunded me 400 from total cost, so it will cover parts and I will expend the energy to redo it this week. The M52 is at the machine shop getting cleaned and pressure tested and inspected.

Need to figure out what I will use it for after the S52 is out and done.

Damn Greg that sucks. M50TU isn't compatible right? I know there's one FS on BFC in Mass for $50 w/out Cams, trays or lifters.

Yes, it is but rather not spend 50 more on one with unknown history and have another blown or cracked head. Thinking of plunking my NV head on it with cams and be done with it.

Oh no Gutten for me leaving Thursday.

Truck sold yesterday as well for 1K

Truck can wait till I find one it's not uber important.

Why can the NV cylinder head be used on a Vanos block with it installed minus cams? I just plunked my vanos end cap on the head and it fit fine.

The link I posted for was from a Vanos (95) 525i. I am not completely sure of the compatibility of the NV Head on a VANOS bottom end. I do know that the M50NV Pistons have a taller compression height than the M50TU Pistons, but it shouldn't matter if the bottom end is left alone.

That's what I'm thinking might inspect the head when I return but it's a 10 day trip so I won't be back till summer is nearly over.
