Did my swap! Just a few things left... Help!

well, i just drove my car home with the m50... good Lord.

its awesome! sounds so good with my 328 headers and dual pipes!

i just have a few things that i need some input on:

tach doesnt work. at first it did. now nothing. it revs for a second on start up then dies. i took it out to install the 6 cyl. pin on the back. it appears my 318is cluster is different. there was a small tab covering the tach/pin hole. i removed it but the pin wont go in. looks like a circuit boards in the way.

my temp guage doesnt work. its dead.i bought the m20 temp switch thingy that screws into the engine head. the threads are to big for my 92' nonvanos 525 motor. kyle gave me one and its the same thing... im assuming it goes on the engine head just below the intake man. and closet to the front of the motor.

my fuel guage no longer works and my fan motor wont turn on. and lastly, when i turn on the heat, the air feels cool on the highway.

thanks guys for all your help. :)

Hmm, mine isnt a non-vanos so dont know about the temp swtich.

The electronic ones are gremlins that will just have to be sorted out. Try a 325 cluster...

As for the coolant hoses, they might be hooked up bbackwards going into the firewall.
    Im now E30less.

If your car has been down for awhile during the swap it could be that your SI batteries are dead and need to replaced / recharged. I had similar behavior to yours until the batteries recharged themselves.

For the heat - you probably have the 2 hoses to the heater core backwards or the heater valve on wrong.

I've got the rear coolant hose plugged to the top heater core hose on the firewall and the "spider" hose from the front of the engine to the bottom. is this correct?

looks like the from the head tube goes to the BOTTOM heater core pipe.. opposite of what i have.

i fixed the guages and blower motor!!!!!!!

the guages and the fan are on the same fuse. mine was blown cause my reverse light switch was wired backward and blowing fuses!

now, if i could just figure what to do with the tach.... its jumping everywhere. :(

            HALL!!

Glad to hear you have it going!I just check ORCA, and the hose that comes off the rear of the head to the lower tube on the core and the spider hose goes to the top!

from memory, the temp gauge is just below the intake manifold. there are two of them on the vanos motor. the one on the right (closest to fire wall) is for the gauge. if you get them mixed up, the car will run in warmup cycle all the time. just check continuity from plug end to temp gauge spliced wire at c101. sorry, i dont have my m50 folder here. email me and i can forward more specifics. cheers.

                thanks for the help

i got the temp piece solved. the fuse for the guages popped due to the reverse trigger being wired backwards.

i also replaced the 2nd switch from the front of the block. that was the correct port not the front one...

i've got my heater core hoses swapped, i'll change that today.

im going to pick up my "chip" for the front of my cluster from a 6 cyl. model.

do i still need to change the speedo wire so it wont cut of the rev limit?

                thanks!
