    Hi guys new person here.

Hi guys I've been on bimmerforums for a while but my interest has now started leaning towards an e30 because I really like doing track events. Consequently I'm looking to purchase an e30 and drop an s50 engine into it. I'm wondering how difficult a swap would be, i.e. how much would a shop charge to do the swap for me?

Would I need to repace the tranny with an e36 M3 tranny as well or is the stock one strong enough to hold?

In general are these pretty reliable cars I'm trying to do this on a budget.

O yeah last question would be what model e30 is the best platform to work off of?

    Thanks :D

Read all 38 pages... You should get an answer there.

They both do the swap if you're not up to the wrenching yourself.

Indeed. I picked up an M50 for 500, and thought I was ahead of the game. Little did I know I had about 1800 in parts left to buy, aside from labor charges since I can't monkey around with it myself. E36 engine to E30 chassis swaps are not cheap, or as simple as they sound like they should be for that matter.

thanks fellas I'm glad I started to research this before making a hasty purchase. Hmm while I have you how reliable are e30s for a regular daily driver. :D

              :stupid:

I thought the exact same thing. Bought my motor for $500, then had to spend hundreds more on basically all the rubber parts for the motor-gaskets, hoses, etc. Shit adds up fast. The custom tranny mount and exhaust were expensive also, as I didn't have the tools or the skills to make them myself. E34 M50 oil pans are expensive, too.

One thing worth checking out is Treehouse Racing's wiring harness adapter. I will probably use it in the future when I do another twin cam swap.

Less known problem areas than E36s. Reliable with proper maintenance.
