    Bad dme?

If your engine light does not light up when you turn on the key, does this mean your DME is bad? Also, tried using the bavauto scan tool and it's throwing a E10 (cannot comunicate with DME).

    Thanks in advance.

You might have your chip in backwards.

Need to add... Long story short... car was running perfect, then tried to installed porsche MAF and then i fried my wires to MAF, re-wired it and now car won't start. I purchased a 413 DME and hope that's the problem. I'll post results later.
        Thanks

I made this same mistake the first time. Turned the chip around and life was good.

Did you change your chip also?

If you are not getting a CEL, you either have no chip or a backwards chip, or you have a bad DME. Or it's a wiring issue.

Turned chip around and still no luck. If I recall the notch on the chip indicates pin 1 at the bottom. haha, well I guess i'll just wait for a replacement DME to find out.
Thanks guys, I'll let you know what happend.

Just wanted to reiterate… when I turn the key to on position but short of cranking engine, my “Check Engine” light does not light up. This is why I think I fried my DME. What do you guys think?

^ 1+ had the same thing happen when my main went. And if you fried it then you might have done in the main relay too. FYI first relay, should be white.

I fried my DME and I still had a check engine light displayed. Check your main relay or any other relay next to it. I remember if I was missing atleast one of those relays, the check engine light would dissapear.

Okay after several hours, still no luck. here are results of my test.

                            1. Engine will crank
                            2. No fuel pressure
                            3. Instrument panel, head lights, brake, horn, radio… all working normal
                            4. 3 main relays click when remote 12v is applied, but not when relay is in socket and key is turned on.
                            5. I tapped into engine wiring harness on the firewall (red wire), no voltage, even when key is on.
                            6. Changed DME (red 413), still no results.

What would prevent voltage to the engine wiring harness and is there a main fuse somewhere?

                            Any suggestions??

                            Thanks in advance…
