    M50 swap issues HALP

    Hey guys,

I don't post on here much at all but I do a lot of trading and researching. I've had my swapped e30 for at least a year now and this is the first time I've had big problems with it. Its a 94 m50b25 with s50 cams installed by TRM and is chipped by TRM as well. I made a trip back home from school one weekend and the car did great like it always had but the day after I noticed something was not right. I went to start the car after stopping at a friends house (the car was hot) and it was surging idle badly and was hesitating with throttle and threw a CEL. I got it home and didn't notice anything visibly wrong under the hood. No loose vacuum lines or anything. Well its been a week now and I'm back home for the weekend. My father and I diagnosed the car for most of the day and here I find my self posting a help thread. Its getting fuel and spark. We squirted some gas into the throttle body and it cranked up and ran off its own fuel with little hesitation. While it was running, the more throttle and the more it hesitated. I swapped a spare ECU and checked the ICV and other hoses. Checked fuel pressure and it seems to be fine.(from the fuel filter) When the car is running and I unplug the maf, it seems to hesitate less and run better. At the same time, the car is still running with the MAF unplugged, I unplug the o2 sensor and nothing changes. This was very weird to me. I am completely stumped on what it could be.

    Whacha' think R3V???

    Thanks,
    Rion

I'd buy some carb cleaner or spring for a smoke test. Improved running with the MAF disconnected usually suggests a vacuum leak.

That said, I think I'd also borrow or buy a fuel pressure gauge. Checking fuel pressure by undoing a line tells you whether or not the pump is on and absolutely nothing else. While I suspect you have a vacuum leak, the consequences of running with low pressure are dire enough that you should check. Idling decently, but choking with throttle applied is often a fuel pressure issue.

I appreciate the input. I'll try the regulator this weekend and check for more vacuum leaks.

      Anymore ideas?

            This. And fixed.

Why did you spend half a day troubleshooting and not check what the CEL was?
