Anybody have a picture of the oil pump nut installed in the car? I want to safety wire it and before I start taking everything apart I want to make sure that I have enough thread to do so.
Thanks :)
I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.
BMW parts, BMW performance / race parts and online OEM BMW parts catalog.
AND they also have a pic.
if motor is in car, gotta drop that subframe. Otherwise, its cake bites.
I tack welded mine on... it was easy(er) and cheap(er).
No more e30s for me.

As a professional lockwirer I can say that the first picture is not the proper way to lockwire anything, the second picture is the right way. Do it like the second picture please.
id feel better with it welded...is this for your personal car?
Why? Stainless steel lockwire is strong as fuck. There is no way that nut is going to back off. With the nut welded you will not be able to remove it during a rebuild without grinding the weld off.
with a weld you ensure no movement at all with the safety wire it seems like it could have a little bit of back and forth play, plus if it were to fail you have safety wire everywhere...and by drinking through the nut you are theoretically lowering the rigidity of it.
and viet though ive never done it before it seems like your right it just goes through the nut based on pics
