    S50 exhaust mani

People who use the stock exhaust manifold how do you modify it to clear the sub frame?

I've heard you can heat and then gently bend it up 1/4"-1/2". Then fabricate a custom "Y" pipe.
    Need a part? PM me.

Although it's not the best solution, a couple dents in the down pipe, to clear subframe/swaybar, off the front manifold will work... I have this done on mine temporarily and it fits just fine.

I am getting a shop to get my exhaust connected into the s52 manifold that I have - its costing me 90 dollars, and I know the guy told me that the sway would be an issue. But he said he can do it and I should be getting the car tomorrow.

I don't have the original downpipe just the exhaust manifold. Can you just weld on to the manifold or should I try to find one somewhere? How does denting the downpipe affect the flow?

Obviously denting the pipe will adversly affect the exhaust flow, but to what extent, I am unsure. I would bet that the difference is not noticable unless it was tested on a dyno. Even then, I would guess 3-5 hp MAX. Its hard to say without flow bench testing the dented vs undented pipe. Again, I am only doing this as a temporary setup.

I think I could live with 3-5hp less ha. I don't plan to keep it forever either. Do you know if you can weld aluminum tubing to the manifold? And what do you think about a flex tube being there instead of denting it?

Bumping this thread. Is there any current info on this? I would rather not stress the aluminum head by trying to bend the cast iron manifold. Are most people running the ebay exhaust manifold? This is temporary as I'm looking to boost the motor within the next 6-8 months or so.
