Nonvanos ecu?

I swapped a m50nv into my e21 and its running like crap. Ive checked everything twice and can't figure it out. I think it might be the ecu. the motor I bought originally came with a red label 402, but it was junk so the guy I bought the engine from had a buddy with an extra ecu. We traded and he gave me a green label 405. The car fired right up. But I cant get it to run right and have replaced almost everything. do I even have the right ecu? Or do I need to get another red 402?

ive been trying for the past month to get it running right, but the only thing left is the ecu. if i dont even have the right ecu its gonna be dam hard getting it to run lol. at idle it sounds like its cammed and its rough. shakes the car. i replaced all vac lines and connectors. its not a vac leak. under 2k rpms it runs crappy and jerks. above 2k it seems to run fine, but doesnt have the power like it should. i just need to know if i have an ok ecu or not and go from there

It can't be vacuum related. I replaced all lines, and ive sprayed carb cleaner all over hell numerous times :/

Op, check the coil packs. I had similar symptoms and had to replace 6th coil on my m50nv. All good now. Good luck

Your car is doing exactly what mine is and I have narrowed it down to the sned not sending a fire signal to my #4 cylinder coil. Nothing coming out of pin 50 on the dme.


make sure all your coils are firing and check your plugs
