    Odd Tach/Spedo Behavior

Hello wise r3vers, my swap is now running(with exhaust!) and I've noticed a few things.

The speedometer works, but bounces around a bit.

The tach works, but shows my idle as about 1500rpm, which isn't right, it sounds like its idling correctly (7-800). When it revs it doesn't bounce around and will rev right up to 6500-7000 and beyond- which scared me since it only happened once (no rev limiter where it should have been and i backed off) and I FREAKED out. LOL

Also my temp gauge isn't working, I was going to chalk that up to the fact that I don't have the correct sensor in there yet...

Does this sound like the SI Board battery issue?

Car is a 91 318i with obd1 m52b28 with an adapter harness I made myself (everything else works great - even have functioning abs). All the sensors on the engine are new. the engine wiring harness is from a 95 325is auto with a 413 dme.

    Thanks in advance.

Haha you have to change the little codec? Plug on the front of your cluster with the same plug from a 325. Chances are you have a motometer cluster so you'll need a codec plug from a motometer cluster of a 325. You sort of get what I'm saying?

I'm pretty sure I follow what you mean, I think I have a spare cluster from a 325is somewhere in my garage........ugh

At least that's what I've been told since I have the exact same problem right now with the rpm passing 7k by a lot if I step on it. Suposedly because of the two extra coils of the 6 cylinder, it's giving 1.5 times more signal to the codec plug and thus you see it reflecting on the cluster. I'm not 100% on the logistics of it but I know that the little codec plug needs to be changed to a 325 plug to better reflect the 6 cylinder's motor signal output. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
