expansion tank on early 88 E30s

Has anyone used the original expansion tank on an 87 E30? Its on the pass side and all the connections are on the driver side. Any thoughts? I don't want to run all my hoses accross the engine bay and I thought $80 for a plastic 88 or later tank is kinda pricey.

You really need the late model tank. You can buy them used on here too you know.

get one at a wrecker, the wrecker i got my engine from threw it in with the engine, along with the rad and some other bits
