    Shift linkage

I'm looking for the shortest stock shift linkage out there. The shorter the shift arm, the further back my engine can come. I'm building a highly fabricated 2002, so its ok to cut past the firewall. In fact, I pretty much have to. The S50 with fan barely fits in my engine bay without the radiator. Would a setup from a Mini Cooper (BMW) work? Is there anything shorter? FYI, I have the S50/getrag 260 setup, so its gotta fit that tranny. I don't know too much about shift linkage and what fits what, so I'm throwing this question out to you guys. There's a lot of talk on here about shifters, but can't find anything about different possible linkage setups. Thanks.

    Re: Shift linkage

I noticed that the 325i convertable has a slightly shorter shift linkage. but your best bet I think would be to cut an equel amount from the middle of both parts of the shift linkage and go to a welder to re attache them. Make shure your welder can weld both steel and aluminum.
