crank. crank. crank. crank. no start. B25NV

hello all, I've got an 87' 325 coupé with a 1992 525i M50B25NV motor in it, bought it last october, drove it a while, then parked it since it snowed... I went to start it today and it just cranks, and cranks -- no start.

what should I be looking for? any common problems? could letting the battery get very weak before putting it on a trickel charger on it?

my 1993 B25TU E36 is doing the same damn thing, too.

any help/advice appreciated.

I should add that the car ran just fine in Oct, and when I went to start it, it fired right up, idled for 3 seconds, then shut off. after that, she just cranks and thats all.

I suggest you start by checking for the basics. Check for fuel and spark and it will start point you in the right direction.

easiest way with coil packs? (forgive me, used to M20 distributor)

another 1 for fuel system, either pump, or plugged lines/filter

attach fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail schrader valve and crank...if it has pressure, then you have fuel. take out an ignition coil and plug in a spark plug to it. crank, and if you see spark across the plug....you have spark.

any generic tester will work for that? I haven't looked at my fuel rail to know exactly where the shrader valve is, but i can probably find it. hah

Make sure you have a good battery 12v+ and spray some starting fluid see if wants to start. If it does go after fuel issues
