For those running A/C

So what what are you guys doing to maintain idle when you turn the A/C on?

Sup, you need the ends of the E36 compressor lines, cut them off and have them brazed onto the E30 lines. I've done this many times takes about 20 min. There is no bolt on affair with the a/c lines.

Maybe I should start a trade in program, send me your E30 a/c lines along with the E36 compressor ends and I can mate them together. Just a thought.

I'd buy a friggin set, I wouldn't have to deal with the trip to and from the hydraulic shop!

I thought about buying a crimper. There are so many swapped e30's down here that I bet I could break even within a week or two.

I'm going a slightly different route. I bought the two beadlock splice fittings, and a #6 braze on splice for the hard lines. I'm going to try and change the angle on the high pressure hard line coming out of the compressor to avoid having the huge bend in the line. I think it will work. I'll take pics and try to remember to post results.

I successed.

I used an e36 low side and an e34 m50 high side mated to my e30 m42 hoses.

Some issues I ran into:

With an e36 low side, you cannot use an unmodified e30 m42 high side. The hard tubes coming out of the compressor interfere with each other. I don;t know what other people are using, but my e36 low side seems like it comes out of the compressor at a higher angle than others. Looks like a #10 to #12 splice is what every combination of hoses on the low side needs.

The e36 high side puts a hell of a downward bend on the tube. I would stay away from it unless you plan on modifying it.

The e34 high side hits the frame BUT you can bend it enough to get it out of the way. It will kink if you get too excited, so be careful. This gives a relatively straight shot toward the front of the car and easily mates with e30 hoses. #8 to #8 splice is all you need. This is what I did.


I dumped in 7oz of ester oil, pulled a vacuum for about an hour, and then let it sit for another hour and the vacuum didn't leak. Charged it with 2 cans of duracool and then basked in all that is chilly.
