    Parts I can buy beforehand...

Got some answers to this, but I've gotten a hold of a few parts locally for peanuts.

    Can I use:

98 M3 OBDII exhaust headers (I think I read there was some welding involved?)

    98 M3 Intake manifold

94 M50 stock blue four nozzle injectors
    OR
    19# yellow mustang injectors

Stock E 260 tranny, stock M20 e starter (and if so, what are the ds choices)

    98 M3 ignition coils

    96-99 M3 primary/secondary tensioner

    Thanks!

Those exhaust mani's are nice because there is an 8 pound weight savings over the obd-1 cast units. Hang on to that intake manifold, you can probably do an M50 swap, use the OBD-2 intake manifold, and maybe get away with using the stock E30 booster.

Hang on to your trans, and get an E30 325 5spd driveshaft. Make sure the trans is strong/no leaks.

You really need to get a complete motor w/accessories and wiring, then get into it.

Thanks for the fast response Stu, I was told you've got some knowledge in this area. Is there a confirmed way to weld the manifolds? I don't weld, so someone else has gotta do it - I'd love to give them to someone that's done it before.

My E tranny will work? And when you say e30 325 driveshaft...e or i?

PS - the 98 OBDII exhaust headers, arent stock mani's I think. Does this matter?

Also, I bought the 98 M3 intake manifold, what throttle body should I grab?

Also have access to a 70K head from a 95 M50. If I get this without the cams, what bottom ends can I look for? I have access to a non-vanos M50 (complete) with 110K on it, can I swap the heads and put in M3 cams?

Just having trouble putting the puzzle pieces together.

Maybe a post with the different pieces and what goes with what...
IE: m50 bottom end, m52 bottom end, s50 bottom end, s52 bottom end

All heads are the same exc. the non-vanos valve springs, and the cams, correct?

You're making this a huge headache for yourself. Just buy a complete engine... Seriously.

haha :) Listen, I don't have the cash to buy the engine up front. And these parts are literally under $10. So if I can get them and use them later, why not? And like I said, I found a bare engine for $150, so if I can buy these other parts for a few bucks, I'll have the whole thing for way less than most of you guys paid.

It's not like I'm trying to find every bolt seperately - just stuff that bolts on to the engine. Nickel and diming my way to an M50 - fun, not headache ;)

Listen to Addis on this one--get a complete motor! I wish I did. Or you will eventually find yourself buying those individual bolts.

Bolts are easy to get a hold of! I'm looking at putting together a 110K mile M50 for under $300. Worth it or not? :) NICKEL AND DIME BABY!

Yes, they are. I don't think you're quite seeing the whole picture of the swap, however.

Dude listen to everyone that has done the swap. Get a complete motor, you'll save so much money.

I saw a whole motor on the bay yesterday for $500. Trust me, $300 isn't going to build your whole motor.

I am...and I found a local for $500. It's just that extra $200 though not much money can really make or break when I can buy the motor.

We'll see what happens, I suppose. Working on a different deal for complete engine now...
