Getting there, Need wiring, cooling, throttle help.

    Hey everyone,

So i finally got my car into a friends heated shop so i can get working on it. Ive run into a few snags. If you remember some clown was doing the swap for me, and quit half way through so i have no idea what is done/done correctly.

firstly, where does this wire go. It appears it needs to be hooked up the the fuse box some how, but i have no idea how.

Then there are the coolant hoses/stuff that hooks up to the throttle body. And im not sure whats what.

    Thanks in advance.

    Joe

They're 3 hoses under the TB. 1st two are for coolant. One from the head and one from the spider hose. The 3rd is goes to that valve thats connected to the Charcoal cannister thats laying by the motor mount. The connector that goes to that valve is in the same bunch as the MAF connector(round).

Black hose laying beside the coolant hose(one for the expansion tank) goes to the intake boot and doesn't have the connector it needs so you may need that if its not in the boot.

Big power wire either goes to the starter or the Alt. Looks like you already have one going to the starter though.

That big wire looks like the e36 fusebox power cable to me. Verify your starter connections (one big to alt, one big back to junction block, black/yellow small to ign switch, black/green to unloader) If your e30 fusebox power cables still are connected to the junction block you can get rid of that wire.

        EDITED with correct wire colors

Yeah that's the e36 starter/fusebox power cable. I pulled mine completely out of the harness, it came out with no cutting/hassle, just pulled it hard.

Here's the diagram for the cooling system.

part 10 is the airbox cold start thermostat. not needed really, I looped mine, so the head connects directly to the TB cooling passages on one side, and the spider hose on the other. looks like you're already good to go on that though.

The little dangling valve in your bay is the "evaporative emissions valve." Mine is plugged in, but also dangling, would like to know where the 'correct' placement is.

And here's the info for the engine harness for you, just in case. If I were you, I might consider pulling the intake manifold to check all this stuff and the coolant hoses in there.

            1. oil pressure sensor BRN/GRN or BRN/GRY
            2. front coolant temperature sensor (ECU) BRN/RED BRN
            3. rear coolant temperature sensor (Gauge Sensor) BRN/YEL BRN/VIO
            4. crank position sensor YEL
            5. cam position sensor YEL RED/WHT BRN/ORG
            6. VANOS solenoid RED/WHT GRN/BLU
            7. knock sensor, 1-3 BLK NCA DME PIN 70
            8. knock sensor, 4-6 BLK NCA DME PIN 69
            9. throttle position sensor (TPS) BRN BRN/BLK RED/YEL
            10. intake air temperature (IAT) sensor BRN GRY
            11. idle control valve (ICV) WHT/YEL RED/WHT WHT/GRN
            12. Evaporative emissions valve BRN RED/WHT

Thanks. Also, do i NEED to use a late model coolant expansion tank? B/c the factory 87 one works fine and the hose reaches no problem.

no. you can use either one. just the late model one works better.

I have seen both kinds used

Thanks! I plan on getting a new M42 rad when funds are sufficient. But in the mean time its going to be a stock tank.

BTW, i plan on buying one of your shift boots soon.
