what is wrong with this swap?

I recently bought a beater that has an m50 vanos swap done. I got the car for really cheap and the motor sounds good. I'm pulling the motor and putting it into my convertible. However after looking the swap over I noticed a few things that concern me.
    1. The temperature is not reading at all the guy who did the swap did all his own wiring.
    2. There is no aux fan installed or fan shroud kinda worried about it overheating.
    3. The tachometer is not reading right i believe i just need a coding plug off an 325I instrument cluster.
I did search btw just could not find a definite answer about the fan shroud and aux fan I would think that shroud would make a huge difference as it wil help tunnel the air..
Thanks for any help I appreciate it I am new to the 24v this is my first m50...

here are 3 pics I have i know the bay is dirty but where this engine is going is real clean...

No fan shroud but a fan, correct? I think I see it spinning in your blurry picture.

The shroud really doesn't fit on a m/s/50/52 swapped E30. You'll be fine without it although I know I'm going to be going SPAL or some other variant. I don't like the tiny clearance to my radiator.

I'm running mine with no shroud or aux fan and it holds its temp just fine. Haven't tried it on a hot summer day yet. I have a Spal push fan waiting to be installed as well.

summers here get really hot and humid it can't hurt to plug in an aux fan right? So you are installing the push fan before the radiator. makes sense. that's what I am gonna do.

Hate to thread jack, but my e30 temp gauge is reading at like barely above stone cold. Can't possibly be correct. I'm running an M50 single vanos from a 95 e34. Is there something special that needs to be done for the gauge to read right?

Yeah, same. No aux fan, all mechanical. I'm going to be losing it just to have some peace of mind when I get on the brakes. I can just see that fuckin' thing tearing into A. a hose or, B. the rad itself.

Spal Push fan on the out and a Spal Pull fan on the in should keep it nice and cool.

tach if it reads at all but wrong its probably the coding plug...

Temp you will need the sensor off an M20, and put it in the E36 sensors spot, then hook up the correct wire.

I will add to this. The temp sensor from the M20 (AKA "Brown Top".. becuase its a brown connector) goes where the e36 plug goes. The body is grounded through the engine, Connect C101 (e30 round connector) pin# 4 to its only pin. This will solve your temp reading problem as it goes straight to the gauge from this point.

The tach, you need the 325i coding plug. That's all.

Modify a shroud... but you're better off removing the Aux fan and adding a 15-16" Puller. Wire it to the temp switch on the pass side of the radiator and forget about it. It'll run itself.
                    No more e30s for me.

awesome thanks a lot guys! I should be dropping the motor in in two weeks I may fix it on the car it is in now just to get a temp reading and see how high it really is revving... 5k @80mph is just too much for me I really don't care about acceleration I want a dependable cruiser for my summertime vert. I will be swapping out the diff with a 3.73 limited slip. Hopefully the ratio will allow me some more top end and not to be winding out so hard on the highway.
