    how reliable is the m50?

I have a swapped car, and I am thinking about drifting it

how reliable is the m50 with drifting (high RPM abuse)?

    any known problems?

Its as reliable as you make it. Find a nice one and rebuild it up right.

oil pump nut is the only thing i can think of that could cause a failiure... some red locktite fixes the problem...

Secure the oil pump nut (loctite isn't secure in an oil bath - safety wire or weld it). You may have oil starvation issues as well.

Beyond that, cooling is important as a drifting car has poor airflow across the radiator.

I think they are bullet proof, more than an m20 at least. My m50 e36 has been running forever with nothing more tan oil changes and basic tune ups!

nothing safe about high rpm 24v :P

only real issue is airflow. you should do your best to fit a clutch fan.

I only had cooling problems after boost got above 10psi. NA should be fine. Just make sure your engine is up to date on cooling parts.

              Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

What did TRM do to your limiter to make it sound like that/bounce so fast

your old car is bithin as hell now. salvage title back from the dead and better than ever. new m50tu engine likes the revs a lot more. i upgraded the one you rigged up to a faster fan with more fins...still hooked up to the fog light button haha! deleted all the ac crap and making sure as much as possible flow to the bay...bought my car and engine through r3v ftw!

Maybe a chip, cause mine hits like that, at 7-7200 rpm

don't forget the water pump and thermostat housing may need to replaced if not already.
