    I Need Some Ideas

I posted this over on Bimmerforums, but I havent had too much luck with that site, so I hope some of my fellow E30 enthusiasts can help me out.

This thread pertains to my 1997 M3.

Alright. I am having an intermittant problem with my 97 M3.

    Here is the problem.

It will randomly die at idle, and it will buck while (like it is stalling, but the fact that I am in gear and moving will jump it back to life). It will always start up just fine after it dies, no need to wait or anything.

If I put my foot on the and kick up the rpm's to 1000 or so it will stay there for a while, but then, even if i keep my foot in the same position, the will fall back down to idle, like I am not pressing the accelerator. This only works with small rpm increments. If I kick it up to 1200+ it wont do it.

If I turn the a/c on, and turn up the radio loudly, or turn on the headlights, the problem gets much worse.

it is also throwing a P0101 (MAF circuit range/performance problem) code. I have cleaned the MAF with no success. The PO did an M50 manifold swap and last week I went through the entire build and replaced and redid all of the work making sure no shortcuts were taken.

I have replaced the pressure regulating valve and I have swapped in an ICV from the perfect working order one from my S52ed E30 with no changes in reaction.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what can cause this? The PO swapped in a 3.5 hfm with a tune from AA, so simply grabbing another MAF to try is a little more difficult. There are no vacuum leaks. I have checked.

The problem doesnt make the car undriveable, but it is extremely annoying.

If anybody has any ideas please let me know. At the end of my leash with this car, and I just want to enjoy it as a DD. TIA

Sounds like a bad MAF to me. Shouldn't be hard to find a known good working one.

Faulty charging system is my first guess. Second would be a bad TPS.

        Thinking about the MAF.

So a new alternator? or finding a problem within the charging system? W@hen the car is at idle volts are approx. 14.2

        Also thinking about the TPS.
