So i am almost done swapping a s52 out of a 96 M3 into my 91 318I, but i am having a few issues with the wiring.
Some background: I have a 413 red label ecu and a harness from a 1994 325is auto. I cut all the auto stuff out, and reviewed the ETM to find the pins at the X20 connector. I also used the 91 318 ETM and 92 318ic ETM (based on info found on other threads) to find the pins at the C101 connector. I removed all the pins from the x20, replaced the pins and the connector with a c101 for a clean look.
The problem: with a fully charged battery, the c101 and ecu hooked up, i turn the key to the acc position, several of the lights on the dash pop up (ebrake, airbag, etc), the relays all click, and when i turn the key back to the off position nothing happens. The relays don't click, the lights stay on.
I thought i would try this with the c101 unplugged, and the lights don't pop on until the run position on the key, and when i turn the key back to off, everything functions normally and turns off.
I also thought this could be an issue with my ecu, so i tried hooking up the c101 with the ecu unplugged. This resulted in the lights still turning on in the acc position, but the lights still turned off and relays clicked.
Here is the wiring chart i made for the engine-chassis connection:
c101 - X20
1-25
2-X
3-X
4-12
5-23
6-22
7-21
8-24
9-20
10-X
11-19
12-8
13-13
14-14
15-15
16-16
17-X
18-18
19-X
20-switched power
I have searched and found several people who have had similar problems in the past, but wasn't able to find any definitive solutions that were helpful (they were older gen cars).
Thanks in advance for the help. (build thread hopefully coming soon)
