I have a 325es with the double pump setup. I am going with a 1l surge tank and Bosch 044. I dont think the stock 325es in tank low pressure pump will be enough to keep the tank filled. What are my options for an intank pump? The Walbro seems like overkill for just a lift pump. would a 325i pump keep up? and is it a bolt in to the e? Thanks in advance.

Yup, that's what I did. Late model tank, 2 prepumps, surge tank, main pump. The pump flows plenty but the secret is that it doesn't actually need to. Your engine won't consume all 43psi of fuel pressure, it's just for the injectors to atomize the fuel well. Most of it will return. So the transfer pump just needs to keep the surge tank topped up, and the main pump will circulate the fuel from the surge tank, to the fuel rail, and most of it back into the surge tank.

(missing the overflow back to the tank. I have an AN bung in the tank, just waiting for some more hose and a few fittings to arrive)

Agreed, I am running the same set up in my car, I am using the factory lift pump to a 1L surge tank to the 044 pump. The return line goes back to the surge tank and fills it up and the extra goes back to the tank. If my in tank fails, I MAY consider an upgrade but I do not think it is needed.

your still using the stock lift pump to feed the 044? If thats the case I wont bother upgrading until it fails. I am going to run 5bar for fuel pressure if that makes any difference.Agreed, I am running the same set up in my car, I am using the factory lift pump to a 1L surge tank to the 044 pump. Wow, why do you need so much? Can the pump handle that? I'm assuming you're doing this for a boosted car, don't forget that it'll need to be more under boost.

the 044 can handle it, I was just hoping the stock lift pump could keep up. Both s54 and s62 run on 5bar of fuel pressure stock(crazy I know). This isnt a boosted car.e30sport.net
