Foam Gasket on the Valve Cover Plastic Shroud

[ACHTUNG]

Mine is torn off in places and I was wondering if it's important. If so, what do you suggest using to patch the spot that was torn away?

Its just so that moisture/water is less likely to come down into and fill up the spark plug tubes. If you are really worried about it, just replace it with some 3M weather stripping. It has adhesive on one side.
