    Need help with 24V exhaust/mufflers

Ok, so I know this has been gone over a million times in other threads, but I want recommendations on a good, inexpensive single in/dual out muffler. I'd like to stick with Magnaflow, has anyone had any experience with this model?

Free Shipping - MagnaFlow XL 3 Chamber Mufflers with qualifying orders of $109. Shop Mufflers at Summit Racing.

It's only $61, and combined with the Magnaflow I'll have in place of the cats, I don't think it will be too loud, but I find conflicting information on the noise level. Single 3" in/dual 2.5" out is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. All of their mufflers look the same, but there's a dozens of them in the single 3" in/dual out configuration, varying in price from $60 to $150, and I don't know what the difference in them is.

At the same time, there are also a few other 3" single in/dual out Magnaflows that are around $90-$100, and a Borla 3" single in/dual out for about $92.

Right now, I'll be running from ebay headers straight into a Magnaflow 11378 muffler in place of cats:

There will then be a Y pipe going from the 11378 into a single 3" pipe all the way back to the muffler. In a nutshell, I want a good sound, but I don't want it to be stupidly, obnoxiously loud. I don't mind a fair bit of noise, I just don't want it to be the kind you can hear 6 blocks away and sets off alarms.

I'd like a dual outlet for twin tips, tho.

Mount it a little further in and run a Y pipe out of the back? Might open up a little bit more of a selection.

I'd rather have the 2 outlets. There are just way too damn many choices.

Im in the same boat trying to figure out an exhaust setup. Im going e36 obd2 exhaust manifolds and midpipe section to a dual in dual out muffler( dont know which brand or model yet). Im hoping the sound level will be tolerable. If it's to loud ill just add another muffler.

Unfortunately, by the time it gets to you, all of that fancy stuff will likely have been picked clean by the greedy postal service employees. Please don't be surprised to see just a plain envelope.

I'm running the single 2.5" in to dual 2.5" out model: Magnaflow 12158. It looks to be the same muffler as the one you're looking at but with a 2.5" in instead.

My setup consisted of Stock M20 with Budget Beater's V2 headers, Y pipe 2.5" single out, 2.5" high flow stainless cat, 2.5" ebay stainless resonator, magnaflow 12158 muffler with 3" stainless slash tips welded on. Here's a pic of the tips that I welded on:

I would say the sound was relatively loud but not obnoxious. My wife said she could hear me coming about 2 houses away at a 30mph cruising speed. It screamed at WOT. I'd say the sound of the whole setup was a 6 on a scale of 1 - 10. 1 being stock and 10 being straight pipes. Sorry I don't have sound clips. The quality of the muffler is good. I had no problems with it. I'm keeping the setup for my S52 swap except for the headers.

I think I'm just going to go with that one I posted. It's cheap, sounds like it will do the job, and if it's too loud, I'll add a resonator in-line later.

the oval case magnaflow's seem to have enough volume to get the job done but just stay away from the round case units, I had one on my car with a resonator and all it did was keep the car quiet-ish at idle. Granted I'm running a short system (muffler sits under the driveshaft and the tailpipe is right past the subframe), but it was obnoxious I needed ear plugs to drive the thing. I ended up going with a hushpower HP2, not the cheapest thing out there but it sounds great and kills a ton of sound.

Single 3" is overkill for a non-vanos M50. Just go with single 2.5", which will be a bit quieter, into this Borla:

IMO Magnaflows + ebay headers on a 24v motor sound WAY too raspy. The Borla has a much nicer note as an end muffler. My friend is running a larger magnaflow in the middle, with that same Borla I posted at the end, and it sounds glorious!

What's the tip spacing on the outlets like, is there a huge gap in the middle?

You will have to bring one of the outlet tubes inward for nice tip spacing. Here is how my friend's 3" system turned out with the 3" version of this muffler on an e36.

Is going from a dual-pipe system into a single after the Magnaflow going to create power problems, as in being too restrictive? What's shown above on the E36 is exactly what I'm looking to do, per the shop's recommendations.

Of all the 24v exhaust setups I have heard, I think my own setup is probably the best sounding of them all. I'm not just saying that because it is my own setup, but because i actually think it sounds the best. OBD2 headers to obd1 s50 midpipes to e36 m3 stromung catback exhaust. It's quiet but gives off a rather awesome note in the higher rpm range. A few people have been in my car and can attest to this.

I don't even think this pertains to your original question but I just wanted to let you know.
