We just finished up the swap on Spoon's car, and have run into a slight issue. We reused the clutch and flywheel out of Kell's '94 325is, but now whenever the car is driven, the clutch seems to slip quite a lot. We're 99.8% sure everything is assembled correctly, as we checked and double checked the installation. We assume it can't be air in the system, as that would cause the opposite of our symptoms.
For the record, the setup is:
'94 M50B25, torn down and reassembled with all new gaskets
Getrag 260 w/E36 dual mass flywheel and stock clutch
325i driveshaft
3.73 limited slip diff
Could it be the slave cylinder? We're using one out of the M42 transmission, but according to the ETK they all have the same throw length (20-64mm). Would using one out of an M20 or M50 trans solve the problem? Could it just be rust on the clutch disc?
We scuffed up the friction surface with sandpaper and cleaned it off prior to installation. Any help would be appreciated, so we can get this car back on the road ASAP.
