Battery post / ground post in engine bayHey guys - so I took this all apart a while a

Hey guys - so I took this all apart a while ago and I forget how the big cables should be bolted down. Could probably figure it out with a multimeter etc but rather than risk it, does anyone know how/have pictures of the battery hook up on the passenger side of the engine bay?

Is there power and ground here, or just power?

    Thanks!

It'd probably be easier if you posted pics of the wires your trying to hook up, so we can tell you where they go. Make sure you get the harness in the pic. Or I'm sure you can find plenty of pictures of engine bays on here.

24V M50, M3 cams, Turner Tune, full exhaust, ect....

            Its a 6/86 build date.

Here is an image of what I got

A is the +12v constant terminal from the M50TU harness. It has a ring terminal under that box thing that I can take off.

B is part of the M50TU harness as well. Looks like the ground up to the coil junction. On my E34 I believe this grounds to the strut tower area.

C is a cable that comes from the E30 fuse box. Its got a ring terminal one being slightly larger than the other. I ohm'd out the larger (I think) terminal and it ties to the +12v side of the fuses... so I would think its power for the fuse box. I would think the other is a ground for the fuse box... not sure. Where do they ordinarily go, though?

Then you can see the big cable in the background going to that big junction. Is that all just +12v stuff or is there a ground post there as well? I should have photo'd/documented this before I took it off.

B, should be ground, just peel back the wrap to be 100%.

You should use the original M20 starter cable, and remove the M50 one along with the other red wire attached to it from the harness.

Is there a ground near this area?

I am not sure what the distribution block thing is doing.

Just confirmed there is a big fatty wire going from that junction in the pic above to the starter. Then there is another wire going from the alternator to the starter. Then a small wire on the starter going to C101 I suppose. Do you only use two terminals at the starter?

Yes, two starter terminals. Alt & starter on one, black/yellow smaller wire to C101.

Wait, what starter are you using, M50 or M20..?

Just an FYI, one of the M50 B+ harness wires , has a black shielding over it. You need to peel it back to see the actual red coating on it. Maybe you have it under control, but that screwed me up a little when I did my install.

Yeah I am using a... well, put it this way - its got 3 terminals total. One has a braided ground to the mounting tab so that takes one post out of play. Then there is a large terminal and a small terminal. Thankfully I hadn't hooked the batter up - I had the +12v from the B+ going to the starter braided ground terminal. So, thankfully no power to the car - switched it over to the same terminal as the alternator cable. So now, B+ E30 cable goes to the big terminal along with the alternator cable, other small wire goes to the small post. So I think that's it.

Yep - turns out the two wires "C" are red underneath the covering. So those are now on the B+ terminal on medium and small screws on the B+ as they were from the factory on the E30. I hooked "A" up to B+ smaller terminal directly above the fattest cable on the B+ that comes from the battery. Then I bolted "B" and the other ground coming from the M50TU harness together with an extension and grounded that to an M6 nut welded into the battery tray there.

Sound right? I put the battery on, no fires. Turned the key - starter engaged but battery is way too flat. First it kind of turned the motor I watched the pulleys turn. Then it was flat and the solenoid kept clicking.

                            Thinking of jump starting it.
