I have a 2.8L motor for sale for m50 conversion

Guys I just picked up a 2.8L motor out of a 98- 99 z3 with only 50K ( kms) on it. This thing is mint. I was planning to use it for the e30 but went a different route.

So this thing is up for sale.

1500.00 CDN + shipping takes it. ( what I paid for it)

Just need a obd1 conversion kit and I will throw in some ceramic and heat treated obd1 stock headers.

DONT FORGET THIS IS THE ALUM BLOCK AND HEAD

Great for those looking to save some weight

    some pics:

Aluminum block was only out of a 97 Z3. Unless things were different in Canadialand, which is possible...

all z3 2.8s were aluminum- the 1997 and 1998 motors are single vanos, the 1999-2000 motors are double vanos. That being said, is this engine from a 1998, or 1999?

It is a M52 so it is OBD2

But you can convert it to OBD1 and have been told that you can get a conservative 200 whp out of them with all the bolt ons and a OBD1 conversion... ( some say 210-220 or more )

I got 198rwhp out of my M50B25tu before the supercharger. So I think that these figures are quite close.

Plus this thing is 36% lighter then my motor.

thats got to count for something.

                Thanks for the interest..

P.S. I have a used ERT/RMS v1 supercharger system forsale that would make this thing a total monster.

The only way this motor would be good to me is converted to OBDI which means swappin the head, intake, ECU etc.

Since its got a Alm. block does the OBDI head HAVE to be ALM too.... as I know sourcing that would be tough

You dont need an obd-1 head... the head on it is fine. Just get the obd-1 intake manifold, and various other goodies.

                        Theres your how to guide.

All m50 heads are aluminum fyi...

So know to find out the location of this engine FS ;) Price sounds good

I really like the weight reduction of this motor, Do ya think it lesser weight equals out the extra displacment on the S52's?? power bout the same right?

An OBD1 M52B28 with S52 or aftermarket cams, bigger MAF, injectors, intake, exhaust and the right tuning seems to create 230whp+ on a fairly regular basis. Then add in the fact that the block is about 60lbs lighter, all of which comes off the front end, and then this option starts looking very attractive for a lot of people.

Dont forget the extra torque over the 2.5l that you'll get... Go for s50 cams. s52 cams if you want to do dual valve springs... and lose all of that torque. but truthfully, I'd probably just buy a 2.5 liter for $300 on ebay, put a couple of turbos on and spend your money on fuel managment... oh wait... that is what i'm doing, never mind.
