    getting a m50 on a stand

I just bought a 92 m50 from a 525 this week and it is getting deliver tomorrow or the next day ( the guy is somwhat local) and he thought he would be able to bring his buddies engine lift to lift it from his truck and to get it on to my stand but now he isnt able to borrow it, and the place I had planned to rent from later on down the road in the sawp has all 3 of theirs rented for at least the week. Would it be possible to pick it up out of the back of the truck, and get it on to the engine stand? I really would like to get it up so I can start playing with it, but I am too broke just to buy a lift because of school.

No, you won't be able to lift it by hand out of the back of the truck. If you absolutely can't get a lift, you'll have to get some sort of pulley setup to get it out of the truck.

      Nice disclaimer.

Do you plan on rebuilding the motor?

I do eventually plan on building (or more than likely getting it built by a shop) a 2.9 stroker. The engine currently has a blown head gasket, but the head has been checked and is ok. I hadnt planned on doing much major work until probably next spring, but the price was so good on this I couldnt turn it down, plus free delivery. I figured I could get it checked out and put it inthis winter maybe and get all the bugs worked out before I got it built.
Also, I thought about the pulleys, but I live in South Carolina, all we have here are pine trees, no to mention pulleys probably cost as much as a cheap cherry picker

You couldnt just wait a week to rent a cherry picker? After all, you aren't even installing it until winter. If you separated the head from the block and drained the oil, i bet three people could lift it into a truck. My friend and I did it with an m20... m50s a bit bigger :).

I think I am going to go buy one at pep boys and use it, then return it the next day :pimp:

God will punish me for this, but as said above, I will probably drop the block on my head before I am done anyways

Agreed. I lifter an M50 head and block (no accessories) in and out of a Landcruiser with just 2 people.

all i got to say is weight room bitch.

You can lift that m50 with a few friends.

3 guys moved a m30 with accesories and fluids 10 ft and lifted it into the back of a van.

The stand might be a little more tricky. Maybe prop it up on something.

I just got one from pep boys, but all it has is the hook, so i need to get chain for it now i guess, does anyone know how big of a bolt will work to hold it to the stand, it came with some tiny ones, will 3/8" grade 8s work?

What do you have the chains hooked too? can i get away with about 4 feet of chain and 2 d rings?

Go to Home Depot or something like that and get more chain, its cheap. I think I had about 10 ft of it. I used 3 chains to help balance even thought that picture doesn't show it. You might spend $20 for chains and bolts to do it right.

I had the chain bolted onto the backside of the mounting arms with the trans on and on the front with no trans. I always had myself and someone else to help out with balancing so it was no problem.

well, it is arriving tomorrow evening, I still am not quite ready, but I cant wait. Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on a head gasket kit? Also what else should I look at as a result of the blown head gasket. (the head is been checked and is straight) I need to start on the car, when(if) I get this done I bet I will have the crappiest (cosmetic wise) e30 m50 around :(
