    S52 Swap Question

Ok so Ive read all the stickies, gone onto the 24v wiki page, asked numerous members, but to be honest I am still confused.

Back story, I have a running s52 I can purchase for dirt cheap. I understand the main swap parts, but what I am confused about is the OBDI conversion. Is it worth it, cost wise? Or should I just wait for an s50? Its not the parts swapping the confuses me, but more the ECU/wiring? I have sort of a checklist to what needs to be swapped, but does anyone have real, no bullshit, list for the conversion? Im just extremely hesitant to drop the cash if I get into something that will be too much for me.

    Thanks

Stay OBDII and have the ECU flashed TRM can do it. The price isnt bad.

Wait. You can do that? See I have heard nothing about that option. So you keep the s52 ecu?

its more wiring to stay obdII. because the rest of the e30 is obdI.
        but its been done.
BUT going obdI on s52 you gain a little from what i've read, the obdI intake manifold is better...

Thats what I heard. Like 15-20 hp. I think that I want less wiring lol, but a list of stuff needed.

he can alter your wire harness for an obd1 swap for around 100$ or so i think. it will make your swap pretty much plug n play from a wiring point of view.

For sure. The M3 is getting an Ls1 swapped into it, so the garage will be busy

Yes, OBD2 can be done but OBD1 is easier and you get more mpower. OBD2 gives you a better/ faster DME.

Or should I just wait for an s50?

Hard to find one that doesn't need to be rebuilt. s52's are getting close to this as well. All of them are atleast 10 years old now.

Its not the parts swapping the confuses me, but more the ECU/wiring?

Plenty of people to convert a OBD1 harness to plug-n-play for you. Expect to pay atleast 100 for a competent person to do it. Other than that, just do a continuity test to locate all the plugs.

I have sort of a checklist to what needs to be swapped, but does anyone have real, no bullshit, list for the conversion? Im just extremely hesitant to drop the cash if I get into something that will be too much for me.

I broke my swap up into categories on an excel spreadsheet. OBD1 conversion, 24v swap, engine refresh, while I'm in there

Was pretty easy to keep up with everything like this. Also documented every single peeny I spent on it as well. I don't recommend doing this! :( LMK if you need more help. I would be glad to email you my stuff.

                              Thanks

Oh BTW, The while you are in the list will kick your fucking ass! Hard to prepare for that.
