M52 transmission

I found a m52b28 has a s5d320z manual transmission. The motor is off a 98 528i. What other manual trannys will fit as well? Which trannys are interchangeable?

any tranny that bolts to any M/s5x block.... and the same rules apply for the 260 or any other e30 tranny...

Another question, if the m5x/s5x is off of an automatic transmission whats needed to put a manual transmission?

clutch kit, flywheel, pilot bearing

may or may not need a starter that matches the flywheel depending on the flywheel you get

Is one tranny more sporting than another? Does the 5 series get wider spaced cruising gears compared to the 3 series?

nothing drastic between the 5 speed transmissions... the 6 speed is the ultimate choice, but they are harder to find and more expensive.
