    Do I leave this plate on?

    The M50 didn't have one.. the M50 and S52 oil pans look a like inside. So my guess is leave it as is, However I have come across some people that say take it off.. I couldn't edit picture but for those who don't know what im asking it is the plate that's covering the crank shaft.. thanks r3v:)

    Leave it on helps with oiling stuff.

      From my research I found take it off the motor becasue the e34 pan has this already in it. Don't see why one would need two...

          yea the m50 pan i picked up, doesn't have that piece inside.. so I will leave it on.

            Strange. On my E34 pan I'm almost certain it was riveted on. Called a windage tray. Helps prevent the crank from whipping the oil into a froth. You definitely want one or the other.

            If you keep what you've got there, you may need to remove the bracket that is sticking out to give you enough clearance to the E34 pan. Just bend it back and forth till it breaks off.

              Yea I had to remove the bracket. I think I should leave it on because the s52 didn't have that part in the oil pan and neither does the m50.

                Post a picture of the inside of your e34 oil pan, it should have it riveted in. The normal e36 pan will not have it.

                  My windage tray on my e34 pan was riveted in and was removed.

                    Mine was removed from the pan before I got it, too. To clarify, you can EITHER use the one on the engine, or the one in the pan. You can NOT use both (the pan won't fit on if you try).

                      Ok, so assuming you had a choice between the baffle in the pan, and the one bolted to the motor... Which one would everyone pick?

                        Some of the oil pans had the windage tray, some didn't. You can use either the one on the oil pan, or the engine, but not both as previously stated.

                          I put my pan on already, so no pictures of the pan inside. Talked with my mechanic from BMW, advise me to leave that plate bolted to the engine because the M50 oil pan was exactly like me s52 pan, didn't have that baffle or whatever its called in it. So it stays as it was prior to oil pan swap. Anybody knows if because its a M50NV pan is the reason for that piece not being in there. As long as me engine stays top, I'm OK:).

                            my pan was from a 92 NV motor and had the windage tray in it. I removed the one from the engine, and kept the one in the pan.

                            As previously stated, use one or the other, not both
                            I saved 15% on my Bimmer parts by switching to ...

                              Didn't someone here have a problem with the crank hitting the tray and making knocking noises?
                              I can't recall what was wrong that made it hit.
