You can use an m20 box.

I have an M20 airbox in perfect condition if someone is interested in making it work. $10 plus shipping sorry for the plug, but thought maybe it would be relevant.

Well, ask and ye shall receive. Stefan from Turner fabbed up this heat shield for me for my s52 conversion. I guess they tested it and it works ok. Things look a little different now, since I had the headwork and internals done. There is a longer 3.5" pipe from the filter to the Euro MAF to help smooth out the air. The engine had some stalling problems before they lengthened it but after they put in the +2mm oversized valves, competition valve job, port and polish of all intake/exhaust surfaces, and custom tuning. But once they lengthened that piece, it was fine. So here's a not-so-recent pic, but it should be good enough for you.

You'd be surpised how fast engine bays get heat soaked in 110ยบ, once they heat up, they take along while to cool off.

If I wasn't selling my car, it would be next on the list.
If your car is moving then the air that is coming into the intake is cold anyways. A heat shield isn't going to cool it down before it reaches the filter.

If you are not moving then why would you need to have cooler air in your intake.

It would be nice to direct the air coming in to the engine from the driver side headlights straight to the intake, instead of the intake taking air that is being heated by the engine and just being swirled around in the engine bay by the fan. If you would look back at the pictures of the heat box Bryson made for this car before I swapped radiators on it, then you can see what idea I have in mind--there was a noticable difference after I removed the box because it was completely sealed from the engine air, and only taking in air from the outside.

cut a hole in your hood and pook the filter and piping straight up. less heat I am sure

I am not very skilled @ hosting images but click on it to get a better view.

I used a windshield sunshade/HVAC tape to make this ghetto contraption. It shields the filter/HFM from motor heat as well as convection from the coolant bottle. The HFM used to be the same approximate temp to the touch as the manifold..now it is at least 20-30* cooler to the touch on the hottest days. Drastic difference. Draws cooler air from the LF headlight area without the cover in place..

Will reproduce someday in plastic/sheetmetal but it works so well now that I'm in no hurry. It's not a show car.

It serves more as a support to hold the filter up (was sitting on the alternator before). There's piece that block direct heat coming from the alternator, but by no means a CAI. The top seats perfectly on the underside of the hood.

That makes a good filter bracket, but the radiator and coolant hoses are huge sources of heat.

That's a decent start. You should just hook on a tube to move the filter closer to the headlights away from the radiator and then use more plastic to shield off the filter from the radiator.
