Wait, I'm pretty sure it has a chip but not a modded one or anything.

Okay, my Dad worked on the car for a bit yesterday but I haven't heard back from him yet to find out any new questions he may have. I'm pretty sure it didn't start. This is beyond frustrating and I want to get home and try to help out but I can't. Argh.

Anyway I have a few questions. I looked up the car's and engines etm and made a chart myself and they matched what was on AKG so I'm pretty sure the harness is wired right. http://www.akgmotorsport.com/e30convpins.html

I'm just wondering how to make that last connection on the page. Do you cut the wire under the glovebox and connect it to pin 20 on the engine harness?

In some 86-87 models, Speed output is
C104 under glove box Engine speed output, BK/BU Tach 20

The next question is regarding a thread I read.
if you jump fp relay and it works then it's a ground
This may have been taken out of context but is this correct?

Third question. Might there be something wrong with the ECU? All of the electronics work on the car, the engine turns over, etc. Could an ecu problem be related to fuel?

And to help any other ideas people may have this is what I know so far:
-The relays work, we swapped out the relays on M50 harness with the told M20 relays and it didn't make a difference.
-I'm 99% sure the fuse box is properly grounded because we didn't move or do anything to it during the swap, therefore it should still be grounded from before
          - The fuel pump works. My Dad removed the back seat and hooked it up to a power supply and it worked fine.

For some reason (and this may be way off because I don't know a lot about how the car's electrical system works) I think it may be a ground issue. I've read a few threads regarding M50NV engines having problems and they seem to end up being ground issues. I'm going to suggest ground the ECU with a wire to the chassis and trying to see if that works.

I know it's hard to diagnose a problem over the internet but does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions? I appreciate your help.

One other thing. I think he said there was no spark either, I guess this could be an indication that the sensors are hooked up wrong, correct?

yes, check if cam and crank are hooked up wrong.

We had the same issue while working on an other M50NV swap a couple of months ago.

Pull back the rubber boot for either the crank or cam sensor and look at the coloured bands.

on the etm for 92 NV, the crankshaft sensor goes to pins 67 and 68, wires to pins 67 and 68 have a green band

the camshaft sensor goes to pins 44 and 16, wires to pins 44 and 16 have the red band.

FYI - The 3rd clear or transparent wire look to be tied into a common ground at the DME connector.
