Could I 24V swap, or should I stroke

    I have currently a, stripped, fully suspended, and "polyurathanded" 89 325i 5spd.

It has roughly 180k on the m20, and I have just recently did all the seals.

My question is could I realistically do a M5x swap my e30 or should I look into stoking the m20 for budget concerns.

I plan to spend about 2k on more power.

Is buying a M5x + wiring adapter + mounts realistic? I should be able to run my original trans and everything back from it correct?

    Let me know whats thought.

you can run your getrag trans, but it will sit 15 degrees to the right. you will also need an e34 oil pan, choice of break booster, and e21 or e46 m3 engine mounts.

If you do the swap yourself and its an m50, you should be able to get it done cheap if you source the stuff out right.

I had a friend fix the wiring on the swap car I purchased, but now looking at the diagrams it is all not that hard if you are inclined. Its 14 wires I believe.

I say go for the 24v swap, thats just me. Dont have to worry about valve adjustments/timing belts

depending on how you build an m20 stroker it will probably cost more than a m5x swap.
I think m20 strokers are cooler tho

        This.
With the stroker you can still have the heart and soul of the m20 with power like an m50 if not more, but you'll go over budget. And if you plan on rebuilding the m50 you're going to go over budget also.

        Good luck either way man.

You should be able to comfortably squeeze an M52B28 in if you have a 2K budget, and you have a G260. If you have an M20B25 that already runs fine, you're not going to be blown away by an M50B25tu. It will be nice, but it won't be a ton different.

Just ensure you get as complete an engine as possible, and inspect it under power. Do not take someone's word for anything.
