    s50 block, nv m50 head???

    Guys,

I bought a complete m50b25 out of a 525it and thought I had "something" to put in my 91 318i... I'm new to the BMW scene, not new to swaps though. Since I picked this up, I have learned about VANOS, and S50's. I now have access to a S50 long block at a decent price and was curious as to whether I would see any benefit to using the short block in my swap.

Why not use the head?? This was supposed to be a budget fun car (I sold, got out of, the ultra modified LS1 scene, due to it turning into "how much money do you want to spend") and I picked up the turn key m50 for really cheap. I am ready to get this thing going and somewhat frustrated with the hours, days, of research treading through the forums.

    Cheers,

    Blake

Thanks Dave. After we talked I started looking for s50's complete, as I figure by time I source everthing I need to swap to vanos that would be the better way, but I'm not seeing anything close. There is a parts car pretty close that might be a winner, but then I have to start remembering the whole point of this little car was to not get crazy again. I eventually want to turbo the little bugger too. I bet could sell the head and cams, and maybe the m50 shortblock, and break even or come close. So I am puttin out the feelers to see if it's worth the trouble for the forged crank and half liter...

That is not to say I did not pay any attention to your recommendation. I should just sell the M50 and go pic up the 95 m3 parts car... DAMN..... lol gotta love this shit. :D
