    6 speed clutch

    hi,

has anyone installed a 6 speed gearbox of the euro m3 engine?
i'm looking for info regarding the different flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and bearing setup
reason being, i'm thinking of using the m20 flywheel, or the e28 528e flywheel, which is lighter in weight, thus the search for possible clutch ,pressure and bearing combinations

    TIA

You'd be better off using a light weight flywheel made for that tranny- the m20 clutch and m50 clutch look to be pretty close as far as diameter- but the bolt holes for mounting the pressure plate to the tranny arent anywhere near close.

If you can afford a 6 speed, you should be able to fork out the extra $800 for a flywheel/clutch from uuc... that like what? 400 pounds for you english speaking over the pond people.

      thanks addy,

mounting pressure plate to tranny? how is that possible? i thought it was mounted to the flywheel
it is a fact that flywheel to be used must correspond with the pressure plate and clutch set, i was thinking of using the m20 or e28 528e , but was wondering if there bearings and clutch slave cylinder needs some kind of modifications or interchanged with other models to make it work

and yes, i did think of getting the UUC one, but then being on the far side of the pacific pond, about 180 degrees, its gonna be about 2.5 times of what it cost now

yeah... sorry- mount the pressure plate to the flywheel. I was kindof pissed off because I just got my clutch in and they sent the wrong one- so I wasnt thinking well... grrr... Do you already have the 6 speed? You might want to just stick with the getrag 260. Though, if you have the flywheel and the 6 speed, maybe try the m20 flywheel and pressure plate with an e30 m3 clutch, or just a high performance clutch to deal with the euro power. You might have spacing issues or something like that as far as the throwout bearing disengaging the clutch, but if you have time its just something to engineer. It'd be tight if you could get this to work.

If you do opt for the pucked clutch or anything along those lines- you're looking at $500 for a complete kit, or about 180 for the clutch to use with your stock pressure plate.

As far as the slave cyl goes- If you need your rocker arm to push further for clutch disengagement, maybe try machining your own push-rod to stick in the slave. I ordered a replacement by accident once, and its litterally just a stainless rod with a plastic cap at the end. You'll need a rebuild kit for the slave as well most likely.

Good luck- let us know how it comes out.

yeah, i was originally going to go with the 260, but it so happen that my favorite local breaker found a 6speeder, so i chanced on it. it didn't come with the flywheel or clutch, thats why i am looking for an alternate set, else i have to order from germany and will probably take 1 -2 months to arrive, was also thinking about the e34 535 clutch set, as the m3 shares the same pressure plates as the e34, so bolt pattern will be the same, just the weight of the flywheel varies with engine displacement

clutch bearing can be sloved, i just need a same type of bearing with an additional 5 mm, or i could try and source the older e30 320 tpe with smaller flywheel which has the longer 30mm bearings, same goes with the clutch slave, as the rod can be fabricated for an extra 5 mm

hope to get a good working combo, and will post my experience here or the m50 dev thread
