I just looked around, cps CAN cause all my issues.

What is the part number? And do I need to remove valve cover to gain access?

Before you replace any parts...DO YOU HAVE SPARK?

gobuffs asks because if you do have spark and the ohm reading from the cps sensor is over 500 it is not your cps. If you still assume it could be, just for continuity between the pins to the ecu.

Also, I can't find the fuseable link. It's a convertible and ben with a motor swap it should still be 6" from the battery....grrrr

fuel filter was changed under 5k miles ago when swap was done on the car.
fuel tank was drained of sediment and all that happy horse shit.

order the part from my local guy, got it today. will install tomorrow.

IF it still doesnt run, it is going on a trailer and i am trading it for a running 318is vert.

Devon, Ask your mechanic to explain to you how the BMW engine management system works. In particular , ask him what information the DME requires from the various engine sensors at the time that the key is in the "START" position.
If he is correct, It may well help you both ;) , and we can receive feedback.

                          Will do!

Update, got ready to try a new cps, went to put it in and oh no, it has a male coding plug, where as the old sensor had a female plug!
Called BMW and they said they feel it was a packaging error but to bring it in and they will figure it out....ugh rediculous

It's was cps. Car runs, rough idle is fixed too, that might be because of clean MAF or new sensor, whatever.

But Fuck this. Car is being sold. This was not fun.

Seriously? You're going to go through all of the work to have a swapped car, and as soon as something goes wrong just dump it? Have fun sorting out another e30...

THIS! I logged in at work just to post this. I would enjoy the car since all it was was a damn crank sensor. Not a big ordeal at all. That could have happened on any car.
